Cold outbound is dead, supposedly

By Abdalla Elshahhat ·

Cold outbound is dead, supposedly. The people I see doing it well would disagree.

The version that's dead is volume-spam. Hundreds of templated messages a day, generic value props, asking for 15 minutes. That stopped working a while ago.

The version that works is a 5-touch consultative cadence. Each touch delivers something specific to the prospect's actual situation. The first three don't ask for a meeting.

Touch 1. A specific observation about their company or industry. No ask.

Touch 2. A relevant framework or piece of data. Still no ask.

Touch 3. A question that's hard to ignore. Soft ask if there's engagement.

Touch 4. Direct meeting request, anchored to a specific outcome.

Touch 5. Polite close. If now isn't right, follow up next quarter.

Same channel. Different architecture. Completely different result.

The channel isn't broken. The execution is.
